The Art Curriculum at BMS spirals from 6-8. It is designed to increase in complexity each year but include review for students who are not able to take Art every year.
At BMS, students learn about by making it. We learn about art history and criticism through the creation of our own work. There is an emphasis on observational drawing all three years. Drawing is a foundational skill for all art-making. It trains the eye, develops hand-eye coordination, and introduces composition. We work with a variety of media including pencil, charcoal, paint, and clay.
Art is messy. Charcoal is messy, painting is messy, clay is messy. We try to protect students' clothing, and most supplies are meant to be washable. However, occasionally some clothing is stained. I’ll give your child warning beforehand so that they can dress accordingly.
Your child’s grade will be determined according to a rubric for each project.
